This morning I had a pair of Ruby-crowned kinglets coming to the patio.
Nothing unusual except for the fact that my deck is accross the fence from
a dental office and there is only 3 pines trees (small <15 foot high)
witin 100 yards of my patio. The really odd part however was the male
Kinglet, chased the other kinglet and completely flared its crest. I'm not
just talking about showing "red", but the entire top of the bird's head
looked like it was on fire! I have never seen a male flare its crest so
dramitically heading into winter. Have other people seen such display
behavior in December?
