I can tell you of an early morning encounter I had with a golden eagle. I was
walking down Ravenna Boulevard toward Green Lake several years ago and as I
rounded the corner to the final long and forward stretch of boulevard I came
upon an eagle and its kill. The eagle ceased tearing the gull apart for the
moments it took me to pass. It clamped one claw on the remains of the gull's
chest, giving me a fierce glare that compelled me to move from the sidewalk
into the street in order to pass. It was a grisly sight. The gull lay in
pieces. Feathers were strewn over the entire front yard, the bushes, the lawn,
the porch. A gruesome morning greeting.
