12/16/97, Janet Carrol writes of the gulls nesting on a boat and how they
followed along when it was moved from the Snohomish River to Everett. This
reminds me of the story about the pair of Ospreys and family that had taken up
residence on the top of one of those huge towering construction cranes
situated on a barge in the Chesapeake Bay off Annapolis, Maryland, back in the
mid-1970's or so during the construction of a new bridge linking the western
shore to the DelMarVa Peninsula. One day, the barge with crane toddled way
off to Baltimore for a period of time with it's resident Ospreys. A few weeks
later, the barge and crane returned to the construction site with the Ospreys,
all the while remaining loyal and still happily raising their young which then
went on to fledge without being no worse for wear. This gives a whole new
meaning to the term Yuppie -- young upward and mobile.
