Hello, this is Portland Audubon Society's Rare Bird Report. This
recording was made Thursday December 18. If you have anything to add call
Harry Nehls at 233-3976.

A female COMMON POCHARD was observed December 15 on the pond in
Westmoreland Park in southeast Portland. It has not been relocated.

A BROWN THRASHER appeared at the Summer Lake SWA Headquarters last
week-end and may still be in the area.

The TROPICAL KINGBIRD on the North Spit of Coos Bay and the TROPICAL
KINGBIRD at the Rocky Point Boat Ramp on the north bank of the Coquille
River were both seen last week-end.

A female TUFTED DUCK was on the Columbia River below the John Day Dam
December 13. It has not been relocated. The BLACK-LEGGED KITTIWAKE
continues to be seen near the outflow at the base of the dam.

BROWN PELICANS continue to be seen along the southern Oregon coast. A
HEERMANN'S GULL, many KITTIWAKES, and MURRES, and a few CASSIN'S AUKLETS
were off Cape Arago December 16. Two OSPREYS are still at Coos Bay, and a
YELLOWTHROAT, a SWAMP SPARROW, and 36 MARBLED GODWITS were at Millacoma
Marsh in Coos Bay last week-end.

On December 11 a CLAY-COLORED SPARROW was found near Canby. Although
rather wary it continues to be seen. to reach the area drive north out of
Canby on Holly Street. Turn left and drive west on 16th. Street. About
300 yards after a sharp right turn there is a small dirt road to the left
and a barn on the right. Walk the dirt road about 100 feet and look for
the bird among the swarm of sparrows in that area.

An immature RED-SHOULDERED HAWK was at Jackson Bottom in Hillsboro
December 14. On December 12 a BURROWING OWL was at the railroad tracks
along Farmer Road off Highway 99W just east of Baskett Slough NWR. A
PRIARIE FALCON and a RED-SHOULDERED HAWK was along Farmer Road last week.
Two SWAMP SPARROWS were seen December 14 along Van Well Road northwest of
Baskett Slough NWR.

The sparrow flock in Minto-Brown Park in Salem is still producing good
sightings of the HARRIS'S SPARROW and many WHITE-THROATED SPARROWS, along
with the more expected species.

Two OSPREY were in Eugene December 12. A TREE SPARROW was among a swarm
of sparrows at the Fisher Butte hedgerows at the south end of Fern Ridge
Reservoir December 17.

The two CATTLE EGRETS continue to be seen southeast of Hermiston.

The Christmas Bird Count period begins this week-end. Every count needs
help - plan to take part.

Thats it for this week.
