While each of our 6 previous CBC's have been the best yet, this years
numbers were remarkable. 9356 birds representing 83 species on count
day (Dec. 19) and 2 more species seen on the 18th.

These higher numbers were due, in no small part, to the knowledge,
skills and abilities of 8 visiting birders who kindly took up their role
as count unit leaders while they teamed up with mostly newer folks from
the local area.

Ruddy Duck, N. Shoveler, Bob White Quail, N Saw Whet Owl and Hermit
Thrush were added this year bringing the total species to 103 listed
since '91. We were surprised to see the Bob White and while we can
specualte as to their origin, we will be checking on them again over the
next few days.
