I wanted to add to what Kristi Streiffert said.

My wife, Mercy, and I joined the Ocean Shores Christmas count as did our
hostess, Margie, spending the day with Tom Schooley. Margie is a new
birder and I couldn't be sure how much she'd enjoy the all-day count.

I'm happy to report that she had a wonderful time, rain and all. Part of
the credit has to go to Tom, whose enthusiasm, friendliness and
hospitality added much. And, well, birding is fun and we all enjoyed
ourselves. We all got life birds, too (Hutton's Vireo and Varied Thrush,
pished by Tom and Greater White-fronted Goose, that Tom drove us to).

So far, our first winter trip to Washington has given me ten lifers and
Mercy, 11. And a lot of fun. Or did I already say that?

We also went with Michael Hobbs to Whidbey Island. He, too, added to the
trip. We had GREAT looks at a couple young Harriers. Again, the person
we were with added so much to the experience.

Never mind southern hospitality, let's hear it for northwest hospitality!

Happy bird-day,
Ken

P.S. to Tom: Mercy and Margie were quite impressed with your pishing
ability. We've been with birders who scared more away with their pishing
than they called in. Not the case with Tom.
