Hello, this is Portland Audubon Society's Rare Bird Report. This
recording was made Wednesday December 24. If you have anything to add

A BLUE JAY is now being regularly seen in Bend. It is found near NE 7th.
and Norton Streets. For current information on this bird call Steve
Willer in Bend at 541 382-1132.

Another BLUE JAY has been reported from Enterprise. A CHIPPING SPARROW
and many BOHEMIAN WAXWINGS are now at Joseph. An adult BEWICK'S TUNDRA
SWAN was observed December 21 at Malheur NWR Headquarters.

The COSTA'S HUMMINGBIRD that has been visiting a Grants Pass feeder since
late summer was recorded on the Christmas Count there December 21.

The ocean off Oregon was very rough during the week, but apparently many
seabirds were close to shore for persistant birders seek out and
observed.

The December 21 Coos Bay Christmas Count found 2-3 OSPREY, 38 FULMARS, 6
PALM WARBLERS, 6 LONG-BILLED CURLEWS, 18 MARBLED GODWITS, 3 BLACK
PHOEBES, and 4 RED-SHOULDERED HAWKS. A LESSER YELLOWLEGS and a possible
SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPER were also reported. The TROPICAL KINGBIRD was not
seen on count day.

The Tillamook Count recorded a SHORT-TAILED SHEARWATER, a FULMAR, a
MOCKINGBIRD, and a GOSHAWK. The Columbia Estuary Count noted 4
SHORT-TAILED SHEARWATERS, A FORK-TAILED STORM-PETREL, LESSER YELLOWLEGS,
and a YELLOWTHROAT. A FULMAR and a LEACH'S STORM-PETREL were seen along
Clatsop Beach prior to count day.

The CLAY-COLORED SPARROW near Canby continues to be seen. The Salem Count
picked up the TREE SPARROW, HARRIS'S SPARROW, and the SWAMP SPARROWS at
Minto-Brown Park., In addition, a MOCKINGBIRD, a PRAIRIE FALCON, a GREEN
HERON, and a TRUMPETER SWAN were listed. The Forest Grove Count recorded
the Fernhill Wetlands GREEN HERON and the Hagg Lake RED-NECKED GREBE.

Among the swarm of waterfowl at ankeny NWR December 20 were 9 EURASIAN
WIGEON. Over 200 swans are now in the Airlie area of SW Polk County, but
so far the WHOOPER SWAN has not been relocated.

The TREE SPARROW continues to be seen at the Fisher Butte hedges at the
south end of Fern Ridge Reservoir. A CHIPPING SPARROW, a BLACK PHOEBE and
a SAY'S PHOEBE were listed on the December 20 Roseburg Count.

The December 20 Bend Count recorded a CLARK'S GREBE, an ANNA'S
HUMMINGBIRD, a SWAMP SPARROW, and a HARRIS'S SPARROW. After a rapid
increase and nesting recorded last summer the Bend Count recorded 15
SCRUB JAYS.

The December 20 Malheur NWR Count recorded 128 BOHEMIAN WAXWINGS, mostly
at the P Ranch. A PEREGRINE FALCON, a SHORT-EARED OWL, 10 BARN OWLS, and
a SAGE SPARROW were also seen.
