Shape of Ancients: in flight can appear very short and stocky. On the
water, they seem to stretch out some, appearing more narrow. They do like
to rise up out of the water and flap their wings on occasion, but I have
seen Marbled do this as well, so that behavior is not characteristic of
Ancient alone.

On past trips to Poin-No-Point, I have found Marbled Murrelets are usually
present in very small numbers. In fact lately I have only twice seen them,
both times one bird flying swiftly by. I know that they can occur in good
numbers off the point, but lately, Ancient Murrelets seem to greatly
outnumber them. I was wondering what criteria you were using to ID the
Marbled?? Alan
