Hello Tweeters,
After reading Rob Conway and Richard Rowlett sightings Common Redpoll on
Cougar Mountain,I was ready to attempt the hike today. Robs direction was
excellent,and i took the Trail he recommend call
Red Town trailhead . my first stop was on Coal Creek Meadow, where i took a
short break,sitting down on a bench close to the Creek.I use my little bird
call instead of pishen, and it realy worked. the birds came real close or
was it the sound of rushing water on the Creek,what attracted all this
birds.
>From there I went to a Trail calls Quarry all the way up close to Coal
Creek, try to find a Dipper.This leads to Coal Creak Falls.This Trail is
quite busy,People taken photos,i did not find any bird there one lone
winter wren called in the distance.Back to the main Trail, which leads to
{Indian-Trail} Lookout.It was such a easy Trail to hike,I din't have any
problem getting tired.The LOOKOUT was Spectacular in View.As I was resting
enjoy the quite tranquil soundless surrounding, there i saw somthing large
hawk-like gliding to the trees only a goshawk got the ability to glide to
the forest, so quite it was over in seconds.i been seeing this to many
times,in Montana also many times in Okanogan, there would be never time to
take a photo, also i never encounter one what is perched in a tree.when i
was standing, still so motionless i saw and heard
Red Crossbill flock of 5.i did not see anny Common Redpoll on my hike or a
Dipper.Here are the birds i found:
Downy Woodpecker {2}
Black-capped Chickadee {3
Chestnut-backed Chickadee {1}
Winter Wren {8}
Golden-crown Kinglet {1}
Ruby-crown Kinglet {3}
Spotted Towhee {1}
Song Sparrow {20}
Red Crossbill {5}
Northern Goshawk {1}
One Think I like to mention,Richard is right, there had to be Owls in this
woods with so much good Habitat in Cougar Mountain.
Ruth.
