I got a wonderful Christmas present that I thought other Tweeters would
enjoy. It is basically a GIS tool; a software package that allows you
to browse, print and customize USGS maps. With it, you can draw a
route, see the mileage and elevation gain, graph the altitude profile,
select a part of a map, and save it as a JPEG file. It would be handy
for sharing your special birding routes with interested parties. Great
fun on a rainy day. If interested, checkout www.topo.com.

In between making maps today, I noted the following visitors in my
backyard:
8 Varied Thrush
8 Starling
6 Golden Crowned Kinglet
2 Red-breasted Nuthatch
4 Chestnut-backed Chickadees
1 Brown Creeper
1 Song Sparrow
1 Hairy Woodpecker
1 Red-shafted Flicker
1 Stellar Jay
2 Crows
