Hello, this is Portland Audubon Society's Rare Bird Report. This
recording was made Wednesday December 31. If you have anything to add
call Harry Nehls at 233-3976.

On December 27 an adult SLATY-BACKED GULL was seen among the swarm of
gulls at the Pellet Plant on Sauvie Island. It has been seen regularly
since, most often in the morning. A couple of GLAUCOUS GULLS are also
there.

Single adult gray phased GYRFALCONS were seen December 23 in the Peoria
area SE of Corvallis; December 28 at Jackson Bottom in Hillsboro; and on
December 30 in Woodland Bottoms near Woodland, Washington. Woodland
Bottoms is across the Columbia River from the north end of Sauvie Island
so this bird may show up on the Island or at Ridgefield Refuge.

The Bend BLUE JAY continues to be seen as well as one two miles SW of the
Enterprise Fish Hatchery. The CLAY-COLORED SPARROW is still being seen
near Canby.

Two HARRIS'S SPARROWS were along Rentenaar Road on the east side of
Sauvie Island December 27. Another was in the roadside hedges across from
the Coon Point Parking Lot. At least six MERLINS were in the Sauvie
Island area that day. A HARLAN'S RED-TAILED HAWK was near the sewage
plant in Scappoose Bottoms December 27.

An adult MUTE SWAN, probably from the British Columbia population, was
among the TUNDRA SWAN flock along Highway 26 near North Plains December
25. At least two BLACK SWANS continue to be seen at Jackson Bottom and
elsewhere in the Forest Grove area.

A HARRIS'S SPARROW was about 200 yards west of the intersection of
Gardner and Frost Roads southwest of Dallas December 30. A RED PHALAROPE
was found on the December 23 Corvallis Christmas Count. A CHIPPING
SPARROW, a SWAMP SPARROW, and a HARRIS'S SPARROW were along the railroad
tracks south of Airport Road on count day.

A late OSPREY was along the Willamette River southeast of Eugene December
27. Two OSPREYS and four VULTURES were on the Grants Pass Christmas Count
December 24.

A flock of 10 WHITE-WINGED CROSSBILLS were in Moro, Sherman County,
December 24. A HARRIS'S SPARROW was at Erskine Road south of Moro that
day. A LAPLAND LONGSPUR was in a flock of HORNED LARKS along Rutledge
Road, a half mile south of Grass Valley December 24.

The BROWN THRASHER, a SAGE THRASHER, and an OLDSQUAW were seen on the
December 23 Summer Lake Christmas Count. A large burn near Thompson
Reservoir has attracted a number of woodpeckers, including many
BLACK-BACKED WOODPECKERS.

A pair of COMMON GOLDENEYES and a pair of BARROW'S GOLDENEYES were at the
mouth of the Deschutes River December 28, but there were no bird at the
John Day Dam that day.

The two CATTLE EGRETS that are wintering SW of Hermiston are still being
seen.

Thats it for this week.
