I suspect the newspaper article made the point but I want to emphasize
it. Shade (organic) (usually family groves) coffee plantations have the same
diversity and numbers of birds (roughly) as uncut jungle. Sun coffee has
essentially no birds. So if you do not want all our songbirds that winter in
the tropics to become Rare Bird Alert sightings - insist on organic coffee.
There is another reason, the trade term for the sun grown coffee is basura
(garbage). There really is a difference.
