Sightings for Friday, January 31st

The COMMON EIDER was observed today about 1km west of Spanish Banks
feeding with a very large flock of SCOTERS.

The SNOWY OWL population between 64th and 72nd was reported at 29. Also
along this stretch were five SHORT-EARED OWLS.

Five more SHORT-EARED OWLS were seen at Brunswick Point along with 6
SNOWY OWLS, and the PRAIRIE FALCON.

PEREGRIN FALCONS were seen at Beach Grove Lagoon in Tsawwassen and
near West 13th & Ontario in Vancouver.

Sighted along the Tsawwassen Ferry Jetty were the WILLET, 2 BLACK
OYSTERCATCHERS, and a ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK.

Thursday, January 30th

In a kettle of 14 raptors soaring over the Maple Ridge G.C. in Pitt Meadows were

2 NORTHERN GOSHAWKS and 3 ROUGH-LEGGED HAWKS.

A BARRED OWL was observed in the Whonnack area of Pitt Meadows.

Wednesday, January 29th

On Stanley Parks Lost Lagoon were a PAIR of TUFTED DUCKS along with a
female REDHEAD. The birds were seen near the channel entrance at the east
end of the Lagoon.

A MERLIN was seen hunting near the intersection of 153rd & 106th Ave. in
Surrey.

Tuesday, January 28th

The COMMON EIDER was reported from Kits Beach.

Burrard & 2nd was again the location of a CRESTED MYNA.

Monday, January 27th

Nine SNOWY OWLS were seen at Brunswick Point along with 4 SHORT-
EARED OWLS. Another 2 SHORT-EARED OWLS were reported from the
Beach Grove Lagoon area.

A group of 4 REDHEADS were observed on the south side of the Roberts Bank
Jetty. Also along the jetty were 8 EURASIAN WIDGEON. Another 12 EURASIAN
WIDGEON were off the south side of the Tsawwassen Ferry Jetty. Other birds
seen at the Jetty were the WILLET, a BLACK OYSTERCATCHER, and 2
SNOW BUNTING.

At Point Roberts Light House Park was a WESTERN GULL. Three other
WESTERN GULLS were seen in a large flock north of Hwy 10 & 96th.

Reported from the Iona Jetty were 2 TUFTED DUCKS near the pump house and
near the second shelter were 3 SNOW BUNTINGS.

Sunday, January 26th

The male TUFTED DUCK was located at the west end of Lost Lagoon.

A CRESTED MYNA was sighted about 100yd. east of Granville on 70th.

At the Fraserview Golf course was 1 and possibly a second WESTERN
SCREECH-OWL.

Two ROUGH-LEGGED HAWKS were observed in flight near the north end of
176th in Surrey.
