Thanks to juenemak at zgi.com for the posting about the pileated
woodpeckers in Terrace Creek Park. I spent a couple of hours there
today from 1:00. As soon as I had walked a couple of hundred feet
along the creek, I heard one of them behind me. I came back a bit and
both woodpeckers flew over to a tree in front of me. They foraged and
hammered in the tall trees for a while and eventually left. Very
nice! I bet you've trained them to put on a show for anyone with
binoculars around their neck. :) There were also winter wrens (I
believe) singing their hearts out, nuthatches, towhees, and the usual
juncos, chickadees, kinglets, bushtits, and a flicker.
