There are both Red-whiskered and Red-vented Bulbuls on Oahu and they are
both introduced birds, along with a host of others.

Some folks are selling shade-grown coffee at the Seattle Audubon
meetings, and I think they have information about this at the Seattle
Audubon office. You might try giving them a call at 523-4483 (10-4).

Here in Woodinville, up on Hollywood Hill I have seen at least two adult
Pileated Woodpeckers. A friend near here has seen two in a ten-acre
patch of woods on the hill. I have seen birds in the area between and am
wondering whether we have two or four birds on the hill. The area is
largely suburban large lots with much interspersed woods including large
trees. There are at least two trees which are being used for foraging
with great huge Pileated excavations - I have watched them in action.
These trees are not terribly large, probably 15" in diameter.

I suspect that the two birds I see in our immediate vicinity are a pair,
as last summer I had two, what I believe were immature birds, perched on
a telephone pole across the street. Their plumage was somewhat browner
than the adult Pileateds I have seen, and they looked clumsy like a lot
of "young" birds who have not perfected their skills yet. In addition
they were attempting to find bugs on the telephone pole - the adults
perch there but only use it for occasional drumming.
