Any type of finch has been somewhat scarce in my area of Portland,
especially since the ice storm. There have been a few Purples around,
but my siskins since September have been singles (just don't say this
aloud :) ) .
The Portland CBC had some siskins and goldfinches and one lesser
goldfinch, but there were no crossbills or evening grosbeaks. The larger
number of the smaller finches were found in the non-iced areas--all the
ones we found in my sector were on the western and less-iced end of the
