Hello, this is Portland Audubon Society's Rare Bird Report. This recording
was made Thursday February 6. If you have anything to add call Harry Nehls
at 233-3976.

Two BLUE JAYS and a SCRUB-JAY have been wintering in the eastern Oregon
town of Vale in Malheur County. A SNOWY OWL has been reported recently from
the nearby Ontario Sewage Ponds.

A BLUE JAY was found February 1 at the Sherman County town of Moro. A check
of the town on February 5 produced the BLUE JAY, two SCRUB-JAYS, a
STELLER'S JAY, a MOCKINGBIRD, and a HARRIS' SPARROW.

The female KING EIDER and the YELLOW-BILLED LOON continue to be found just
downstream from the highway bridge over Yaquina Bay at Newport. The
OLDSQUAWS and HARLEQUIN DUCKS are still regularly being seen from the South
Jetty of Yaquina Bay and recently a SNOWY OWL has shown up in the dunelands
just south of the jetty.

The SNOWY OWL is still being seen near the South Jetty of the Siuslaw River
near Florence, and on February 2 a NORTHERN SHRIKE, a WHITE-TAILED KITE,
and an early flock of CLIFF SWALLOWS were in the same area.

Up to five SNOWY OWLS are still at the South Jetty of the Columbia River.
Three OLDSQUAWS are regularly being seen on the Columbia River from the
6th. Street viewing platform in Astoria.

On February 3 an immature RED-SHOULDERED HAWK was seen along Reeder Road on
the east side of Sauvie Island. A GOSHAWK was in southwest Portland
February 2, and on February 5 an adult GOLDEN EAGLE was observed kiting
along the crest of Portland's West Hills. A well marked RED-NAPED SAPSUCKER
was in Newberg February 4.

A large flock of gulls has been seen recently along the
Independence-Corvallis Highway near the Polk/Benton County Line. Among the
group have been three GLAUCOUS GULLS and up to ten WESTERN GULLS. An
unusually large number of HERRING GULLS have been in the Willamette Valley
this winter, they were well represented in this flock.

On February 1 a TURKEY VULTURE was observed flying over Finley NWR, and
later it or another was seen over Philomath about ten miles farther north.

Two small groups of TREE SWALLOWS were observed February 2 flying over Fern
Ridge Reservoir west of Eugene.

Thats it for this week.
