I'll agree that email can be "quick & dirty" communication but if your
message is worth posting it is worth using the shift key and at least a
little bit of care in grammar and spelling. Doing less will give the
appearance of ignorance.

Using the 4 letter codes in text messages should follow Struck & Whites
guidelines for abbreviations. Spell it out with the abbreviation the first
time you use it in the text and abbreviate the rest of the time.
