This a.m. under my backyard feeder was a Varied Trush that lacked the
characteristic black bib. The feather color was consistent with a male
(blue-grey with black accents). Any guesses on whether this would be an
immature or a mutant?

Also for eastsiders, on Friday there were a group of 3 Canvasbacks and 4
Common Mergansers (1m, 3f) on the Sammamish Slough between 124th and 145th.
I know these birds are common on the lakes on either end of the slough, but
they were at unusually close range when on the slough, if anyone is
interested in easy up-close viewing. Go early morning before the bikes and
skaters arrive.
