Subject: Northern Hawk-Owl etc.

I just got back from Eastern Washington University
and seeing the Northern Hawk-Owl (hanging out by
the PUB), Pine Grosbeaks (near the PE center), and
a Blue Jay (at the corner of Washington and 6th). All
were easily observable and quite cooperative.

Crows were mobbing the owl, which made it easy to
find. It just sat around preening and pellet-dropping
for about an hour (I shredded one pellet, which
contained vole bits). The bird doesn't give two hoots
about people near it (poor attempt at humor, I know).
