These bushes are "natives": red-osier dogwood. There are actually quite
a few
native plants, frequently found in landscapes, on the south side of the
locks
(that's the Magnolia slide, oops, I mean side). The heavy usage by the
birds
is testimony to the attractiveness of native plants in the garden.
