Michael,
We had an interesting presentation about Western Grebes at the Victoria
Natural History Society, including some discussion of their nocturnal
feeding habits in the darkness of Finlayson Arm near Victoria. The
researcher (I have to check his name) guesses that night-feeding involves
following disturbances in the phospho-luminescence when large copeopods rise
to the surface at night. I guess there are a variety of strategies.
