Steve Preston, Jim Ganley and I birded the Medina area of Bellevue from 0810
to 1110 this Mon. morning. We plan to do this once a month for a year. For
those of you not familiar with Medina it includes the area west of Bellevue
that is on the L. Wash. eastern shoreline, both north and south of hwy 520.
The main areas we surveyed include Evergreen Point on the north, Fairweather
Bay east of Evergreen Pt., Fairweather Park, areas around Overlake Golf
Course, Medina South Park (Medina Ponds), and three locations on L. Wash. and
Meydenbauer Bay at the south end of Medina.

We had a total of 46 species in three hours on a cloudy morning. Highlights
were: 1 Barrow's and 2 Common Goldeneye, 20 American Goldfinch, five grebe
species- 1 Eared, 2 Horned, 2 Pied-billed, 2 Ring-necked, and 12 Western, one
Red-breasted Merganser, one California Quail, 33 Greater and 21 Lesser Scaup,
367 American Wigeon and 2 Eurasian Wigeon.
