This is the Lower Columbia Basin Audubon Society Bird Alert for February 9,

On January 31, Ron and Carol Louderback reported a EURASIAN WIGEON and a
TOWNSEND'S SOLITAIRE among other birds at McNary Park in Umatilla, OR.

On February 2, Tony Greager and his son found 3 and possibly 4 HARRIS'
SPARROWS just west of the viewing mound in Two Rivers Park (in Finley) and
noted a SNOW GOOSE on the ice with Canada Geese in the park lagoon.

Nancy LaFramboise forwarded a report from Andy Stepniewski in Wapato that a
NORTHERN HAWK OWL was seen along Washington Street just south of the college
stadium in Cheney, just south of Spokane. She also reported that Marty and
Don Hirth had discovered a (NORTHERN) MOCKINGBIRD along the road on the
north side of the dike on the south side of the Yakima Delta. (If you are

On February 6, Marion Milowkowski (?) observed a CHUKAR in her Richland yard
at 1205 Lake.

The following day, Nancy Shade saw the 2 BLUE JAYS in her yard on Singletree
Court, which is just south of their usual base of operations on Hood and
Carriage Streets in North Richland.

Also on February 6, Nancy LaFramboise, Ruth Fischer, and I (Bob Woodley)
observed at least 22 WILD TURKEYS along Mill Creek Road southeast of Walla
Walla. That same day, my wife, Pat, noted 4 BOHEMIAN WAXWINGS in with Cedar
Waxwings in our mountain ash tree. On February 8, Scott Dietert found 3
BOHEMIAN WAXWINGS in with Cedars in his North Richland yard. So, continue
to watch for these beautiful birds.

Also on February 8, Dennis Rockwell, birding at Dalton Lake on the west side
of the Snake River (DeLorme Atlas p 40, B-2) and about 1 1/2 miles up the
path beyond the gate found a BLUE JAY, and more than a dozen LONG-EARED OWLS
among other birds.

Lastly, also on February 8, I found an adult WESTERN GULL standing on the
ice of the Columbia Park Lagoon with more common Ring-billed, California,
and Herring Gulls.
