Hey Tweets,
Today Tyler Davis, Stephanie Dosch, and I went to look
for the Curlew Sandpiper at Crockett Lake.
Alas there was no bird. There were quite a few Dowitchers, Least and
Western Sandpipers, Killdeer(of course), and a few Yellowlegs, (they were
too far away to see well and we didn't hear any). That was the extent of
the shorebirds around the lake. Passerine wise there were a few Am.
Goldfinches, some Marsh Wrens, a few calling but unseen Common
Yellowthroats, and a Savannah Sparrow. There were also some Morning Doves
near where we parked. Other than that it was a relatively uneventful
morning birdwise.
On the other hand I had quite an adventure in learning not to take short
cuts! Deciding I didn't want to stumble through the reed surrounded trail I
thought I might as well walk along the outside of them. My very first step
sent me almost face first into the mud as my foot sunk into mud almost up to
my knee. If I would have been by myself I probably would have had to crawl
out of the mud luckily this wasn't the case. This definitely taught me a
lesson on why you should stick to the trail!
Good Birding,
-Brendan
