I did see a N. Hawk Owl last weekend, but it wasn't the one in Cheney --
I am currently stationed in Minnesota. The one I saw has been hanging
out in a suburb of Minneapolis. It must be finding something to eat
amidst the snow and ice, for it regurgitated a pellet while I watched.
And two miles away from the Hawk Owl in an adjacent suburb is a Boreal
Owl (http://biosci.cbs.umn.edu/~mou/recent.html for a photo of this
particular Boreal). A few Great Gray Owls are just a couple of miles
away from the Boreal (all over the state, for that matter). Now this
strigiform synchronicity may be explicable, but the situation does
get a little spooky when you consider there is also a controversy
simmering here as to whether taxpayer funds should be used to build a
new baseball stadium to keep the Twins in Minnesota, and it gets spookier
still when you notice that every supermarket here stocks lutefisk.
