I was there this morning and saw eighteen, doing their display thing. I was
also stunned to observe one rip a live branch off an alder tree, catkins
dangling. My assumption was that nest material they gathered was loose, on
the ground, etc. I watched this one take the branch back to its mate for
addition to the nest.
