Hi Tweets -

Today, 15 Feb, Rick Romea and I made one of those crazy journeys. We
left Seattle at 6 a.m. for Boise. We picked up a car there and drove to
Hailey. Great weather, the storms passed north of the area, it cleared
off, sunny, and the temperature did not drop as predicted. Clear, dry
roads. Arrived at Hailey at 11:15 a.m. and began the vigil. Six other
birders there, three from Utah, three from Fresno. A number of
chickadees, both Black-capped and Mountain, American Goldfinch, Hairy
and Downy Woodpeckers, but a dearth of juncos. Finally, at 1:55 p.m.,
ten minutes before we would have had no choice but to leave the Accentor
and its accompanying juncos showed up. The bird gave us good, although
too short as far as we were concerned, looks in bright sunlight. All
sides and angles. According to the sign-in journal, the bird has
continued to show at the brown house with green trim across from the
trailer, as well as at the feeder at the trailer. Today, it was back at
the grey house at the end of Abbey? Lane. Another birder told us she saw
the grey phase Gyrfalcon and a Prairie Falcon near Gannet. On the way
back we saw a Golden Eagle, and a Northern Shrike as well as several
Rough-legged Hawks. Arrived home in Seattle at 6:00 p.m., tired, but
still on a high from being successful. First time I have done this kind
of insanity. But still ... Hooray!!
