CRUISES TO PROTECTION ISLAND
BENEFIT THE MARINE SCIENCE CENTER
The Port Townsend Marine Science Center (a non-profit educational
organization at Fort Worden State Park) has scheduled the spring season of
boat tours around Protection Island on six Saturdays: March 22nd, 29th and
April 5th, 12th, 19th & 26th. The "RED HEAD", a well appointed and
comfortable 55 ft. motor yacht, will depart Pt. Hudson Marina in downtown
Pt. Townsend at 1:00 pm to explore the biological and historic dimensions
of this Washington Coastal Refuge. These three hour trips are part of the
PTMSC's educational program for all ages.
We offer these trips to enable citizens to gain a better understanding of
the marine ecosystems and natural science interrelationships which abound
in this area. Mostly, we go out there for the birds. All of our trips
include an additional stop at Rat Island (across Port Townsend Bay) or
Smith Island. On-board naturalists, familiar with the island and the waters
around the Quimper Peninsula, provide excellent commentary on local birds,
mammals, geology and weather. The PTMSC has been providing these tours
since fall of 1994.
Tickets are $35 per person ($30 for PTMSC members, Audubon Society or WOS
members).
Either eMail ptmsc at olympus.net or phone (360) 385-5582 to reserve a spot
and for additional info.
Rates for children & groups are available.
We really just like getting people out there to see this place & the birds
(& mammals) on/around/over it.
