The Washington BirdBox is a voice mailbox sponsored by the Washington
Ornithological Society. To leave a message about a notable sighting, or
to listen to the 12 most recent messages, call (206) 454-2662 and follow
the prompts. First-time BirdBox users may find it convenient, before
calling, to review the status of Washington's chickadee species.

5:42 p.m. 02-17-97. Hi, this is Greg Toffic. I was birding today between
Snohomish and Everett. On the flooded fields on Ebey Island, there were
quite a number of returning TREE SWALLOWS.

4:53 p.m. 02-17-97. This is Dennis Duffy in Edmonds. This afternoon on
my third trip to Snohomish in two days, I finally managed to locate the
GRAY PHASE GYRFALCON. It was in the fields west of the airport. There's
a "Park-n-Pool" lot on Highway 9, just south of the railroad tracks, and
from that vantage point, you can look out west and a little bit north in
those fields, and the GYRFALCON was over by some irrigation equipment that
was out there. Good luck and thanks for listening.

8:55 a.m. 02-17-97. Hi, this is Greg Toffic. I birded a little bit
yesterday in the Snohomish area, west of town and up along the
Lowell-Larimer road up to Lowell, looking for the GYRFALCON and the GOLDEN
EAGLE, which I was not able to find. I did run into Dave Beaudette, and I
tried to find his HARRIS'S SPARROW and was unable to locate that.
However, there was a first year male or female YELLOW-HEADED BLACKBIRD
along the Marsh Road, which goes from south of Snohomish from Rte 9 to the
intersection of Lowell-Larimer Road and Seattle Hill Rd. The flock moved
all along that road. This particular sighting was right by a little
enterprise called Stanley's Stamps. Good luck and good birding.

4:59 a.m. 02-17-97. Hello, this is Dave Beaudette at 206 365-2083.
Snohomish County, Feb 16th. Neither the GYRFALCON west of the Snohomish
Airport nor the GOLDEN EAGLE south of Lowell could be located. However,
an immature HARRIS'S SPARROW was found in brambles on the south side of
the Lowell River Road just over 1/2 mile east of Second Ave. and Lenora
St. The bird was just east of the Everett City Limits and adjacent to
Rotary Park. DeLorme p. 79, A-7. Also seen on the same day was a flock
of six MUTE SWANS on the south side of Tulalip Bay east of Marysville.
DeLorme p. 95. I don't know the status of these birds. Bye bye.

[two notes from the transcriber about those swans: 1) Dave meant west of
Marysville. 2) there have been 6-9 Mute Swans on Tulalip Bay for at
least 14 months; they've been recorded on the last two Everett Xmas
Counts]

8:44 p.m. 02-16-97. Hi, this is Bob Sundstrom 762-4327, reporting for
Sally [? sounds like O'Haddis], Alice [? sounds like Poignet] and others.
The NORTHERN HAWK OWL was seen today in Cheney at 11th and Cedar. Also,
at 9th and Cedar 4 PINE GROSBEAKS. Along Washington St. in Cheney, along
5th and 6th and adjacent blocks, many BOHEMIAN WAXWINGS. The BLUE JAY was
seen at the corner of Washington and Clover, and a GREAT HORNED OWL,
apparently on a nest near Schnebly [sp?] Coulee. That's all for now.

7:43 p.m. 02-16-97. Hi, this is Mike Donahue in Seattle, 527-2859. I
just wanted to report that the HAWK OWL was seen yesterday morning in
Cheney, in contrast to another message in the BirdBox that said it wasn't
located. It was seen between 10:30 and 11:00.

4:33 p.m. 02-16-97. Hello, this is Steven Gilbert, and I'm in the
Maplewood area of Seattle, and I saw four PARROTS at a feeder in the
neighborhood, eating sunflower seeds, but I can't tell what they are.
They're green birds, a little bit of red on their beak. I was wondering
if anybody knows about them - where they came from, why they might be
around. If you do, I'm at 527-0926. Thank you very much. Bye.
