I have not been in the area long enough to notice a trend, but
meadowlarks do seem subject to disturbance. From what Portland birders
tell me, meadowlarks used to be much more common in this area during the
more temperate times of year. During the winter, they can be found mroe
readily, but you aren't ovewhelmed by them. The excitement over the bird
we had on Sunday's field trip shows this. The breeding meadowlarks have
suffered a decline in this area more than the wintering birds, from what
info I can gather, but both are down. RK
