Irene,

We all, anyone who birds seriously and keeps a life list, rely on directions
to see certain birds. That is the purpose of the rare bird hotlines. What
difference is info on a rarity on a recorded message or in a book. I am
going to the Bay area for spring break and hope to find a few birds to add
to my list.
It will help me, since I am not familiar with the spots to find certain
species, to have accurate directions. Maybe I will get the book you mention
to help me. After chasing quite a few rarities and dipping (not seeing
them), it is nice occasionally to find them in the "barrel", like the
Siberian Accentor which we could only have found with help.
