Just had to write and report that of the pileated woodpeckers we had nesting
last year (2 adults, two kids), at least two have been around all winter and
are now drumming like mad on every available surface. This starts about
6:30 am, but we don't mind. It's so nice to hear the birds singing in the
morning that we don't mind our "alarm clock". Finally, we're emerging from
the dark days of winter. Now if only they return to their previous nesting
hole, which was so conveniently within scoping range of our living room
window!! Hope everyone's enjoying spring, and getting out more than I am
(sigh...).
