As I sit here at work, a group of wigeon are feeding on the grass outside
of my window. Included in the group are one adult male Eurasian, and what
appears to be a hybrid male American X Eurasian. The most distinctive mark
on this bird is the cream/ buff crown and forehead, similar to that of the
Eurasian. The rest of the head is dusky grey (streaked grey) as an
American with a thin green patch running from behind the eye down the side
of its head. The sides of the body are a medium grey with a slight pink
cast, neither the bright pinkish of the American nor the pearl grey of the
Eurasian, perhaps nearest to an adult male Gadwall. This group makes its
way by my window several times each week, although I have not seen the
hybrid before today. The location of this group currently is behind the
CHDD-South Building on the University of Washington campus, near the
Montlake Cut. All for now, good birding- Alan
