Last night, as I lay on the couch recovering from a painful session with
the periodontist, I decided to do some (rare for me) channel surfing. I
ended up watching a rerun of Home Improvement where the family is under
seige - a woodpecker is pounding away on the house. Tim Allen tries a
variety of methods to discourage it, to no avail. The show was certainly
not ornithologically correct, but I have to admit I was laughing!

This morning at 7:30, I was rudely awakened from my mid-winter break
sleep-in by an amazingly loud rat-a-tat-tat on the nearest exterior wall.
I have never had a woodpecker woking on my house before! Aren't they happy
with the suet I provide? Did one observe me last night and vow revenge?

The noise did not continue long enough for me to consider a water cannon or
remote control attack helicopter ;)

I do have to admit I wondered what I would do if it persisted!
