Add my voice to those in support of site guides. Really,
I guess, I've met very few bird books I don't like - I just like
some more than others.

Using these books really doesn't reduce birding to "shoot-
ing fish in a barrel." It may increase our chances but winged
creatures like birds don't always stay where the books say they
ought to. I already own the book in question. mostly I bought it
out of curiosity because co-author Steve Mlodinow is a Washington
resident and recent ex-V.P. of Washington Ornithological Society.
I've had the pleasure of birding with him on and off the last
few months and it's easy to see where much of the quirky humor
in the book originated. Conspicuous by its absence in the text
though is one of Steve's favorite terms "Nimrod" liberally applied
to anyone who drives too slowly or erratically. I'm sure cries
of "Nimrod!" (or worse) are directed his way on occasion by those
who don't understand the erratic driving a roadside rarity can
cause.
