PLEASE Buron Guttman, let's NOT start a thread about how much BETTER it is
to enjoy one's local birds THAN to travel the land looking for new ones to
enjoy!

"Ornithogolfing" is a rude putdown for the pleasure one gets in seeking out
and enjoying birds on other parts of this planet. (And come on! Peterson
himself was not just a back yard birder.) Sure, listing is a part of it, and
sure it's a sport that can get pretty intense; but it increases one's
appreciation for how fragile the planet really is and how necessary it is to
protect as much habitat that's left that we can. We need to be allies
together, not adversaries.
