For the past couple of weeks whenever I go out to get the paper about 6a.m.,
there has been a Winter Wren just singing its heart out. That singing plus
the other bird songs of the Bewick's Wren, Red-breasted Nuthatch, American
Robins, and chickadees is a great way to begin the day.

Today, Sun., we got a pleasant surprise. While reading the paper about 8a.m.
and watching the string of bird feeders out near the deck, a Pileated
Woodpecker came in to our Peanut Butter suet feeder. I watched it for about
2-3 minutes before it flew off. We usually see a PIWO only once or twice
each year and this is the first time one has come to our feeders. Then again
about 1p.m. after returning from church it appeared at the feeder again. So
we are hopeful this will become a regular occurrence.

We live in east Bellevue near the Crossroads area and have almost one acre
with mostly mixed trees and native shrubs in about 3/4 of the land.
