I also have seen quite a few of the Varied thrushes. During the big
snow storm I threw bird seed out on top of the snow and would have 4-5
at a time. I haven't had any for 2 years, and now a bunch. I live in
Mountlake Terrace. Also, Laurinda Anglin and I went birding a couple
of weeks ago over on the peninsula and on the way back the last stop
was in the beach park just before the Hood Canal bridge. There were
literally hundreds of Varied thrushes there...they were in all the
trees, fluttering in the leaves and flushing in front of the car. It
was a Varied thrush heaven.

I've had an abundance of Varied Thrushes this year. At least 8 in my
yard at once compared to only a few last year. Anybody else notice a
lot of thrushes this year? I wonder if they just bring the whole family
back for the winter after successfully raising a brood.

Also, I've had zero Pine Siskins this winter. Last year there were at
least a million of them.

One Last Note: the potentially first Violet Green Swallow showed up in
North Bend today.
