Hi folks,

On 20 December 1996, I got my first 'foreign' recovery of a banded bird =
at my place in west Olympia (after almost 9 years of banding about 1,350 =
birds there....). An immature Oregon Junco weighing in at a fighting =
21.5 grams, it (he?) was no doubt heading for my or my neighbor's =
sunflower seed feeders. I released the bird and haven't 'seen' it =
since.... maybe because of the immy male sharp-shinned hawk that's been =
hanging around the feeders the past week or two?

I just received a 'Certificate of Appreciation' from the Bird Banding =
Laboratory (who I notified via email at: bbl at nbs.gov also, phone =
1-800-327-BAND) . Turns out that it had been banded by Refuge personnel =
on 19 October 1996 at Ridgefield NWR, down in Clark County, about 90 =
miles due south of me.

Now, what was that I'd heard about birds flying *south* in the =
winter....?
