This is Kas Dumroese with the northern Idaho / eastern Washington /
northeastern Oregon bird hotline.

The NORTHERN HAWK-OWL is still residing on the campus of Eastern
Washington University. The bird has been present since January 15.
As a starting point, begin at the intersection of Washington Street,
which runs N-S, and Elm Street, which runs E-W on the EWU campus.
There's a large silo dormitory there and the football field is immediately
west. From this spot, the bird has been seen in all directions but within
a 0.5 mile, usually much closer. Check all possible perches, especially
going on foot. Also in the neighborhood are PINE GROSBEAKS,
BOHEMIAN WAXWINGS and a single BLUE JAY. Look for the jay near
Washington Street and 6th. WA DeLorme p. 72, A4.

SNOWY OWLS have been seen the last six weeks west of Spokane in
the Reardon-Davenport-Mondovi area. Look along Detour Road, which
parallels US 2, about a mile south of US 2 between Davenport and
Reardon, and along Old State Hwy which runs parallel to US 2 one mile
north of US 2, and along Waukon Road which heads south from US 2
about 2 miles east of Reardon. Last Sat, Feb 15, Tom and Diane Weber
saw three while Clay Kent reports two.

Clay also saw the GYRFALCON along WA 231 southwest of Reardon. I
also received several reports of small flocks (3-24 birds) of SNOW
BUNTINGS in that same general area. WA DeLorme p. 87, C8 and p.
88, D2. 70

Idaho SNOWY OWLS, two of them, were reported two weeks ago on
the Rathdrum Prairie just west of Coeur d'Alene. John Shipley reported
the birds are north of Hayden Road, which runs east and west, and
between Atlas Road on the east and Meyer Road on the west. One bird
was frequenting the CdA airport at the north end of Atlas. It looks to
me like you can access this by taking ID 41 north from I-90 at exit 7
about three miles to Hayden Road. Anything new on these birds? ID
DeLorme p. 60, A1.

Along with the 2 first-winter GLAUCOUS-WINGED GULLS and a second-
winter THAYER'S GULL at the Coeur d'Alene city beach (aka
Independence Point), you may now add MEW GULL; these were all
reported by Shirley Sturts. The adult male NORTHERN CARDINAL, first
seen on Sun, Jan 5, in Lewiston, ID is still being seen at the home of
Lloyd and Helen Hogden. To get there, take US 12 West into Lewiston,
cross the Clearwater River, and at the first traffic light, head up hill
(south) on 21st Street. At 16th Avenue, turn right (west) and continue
to 8th Street, which is the second traffic light. At 8th Street, turn
left (south). As you head up hill, and just past Mayfair Court, turn
right (west) onto Mayfair Drive. Follow this curvy road uphill, staying
left onto Mayfair Ridge. The Hogden's live at 2975 Mayfair Ridge, in a
brown house with brick accent on the left (east) side of the street.

At least two BLUE JAYS continue to be seen in north Moscow in an
area bounded by Polk, Homestead, Orchard, and Public Streets.

A few spring birds to report... Seen region-wide this past week were
MOUNTAIN and WESTERN BLUEBIRDS, TUNDRA SWAN, and KILLDEER. A single MARSH
WREN was singing at Turnbull NWR just south of Cheney, WA last Sat, Feb
15.

The SIBERIAN ACCENTOR is still residing between Hailey and Ketchum,
ID, about a 3-hour drive northeast of Boise. The bird has been present
for about six weeks. Take ID 75 to Hailey and then continue another 5
miles north of town to milepost 122. Turn left onto Hidden Hollow
Road and go a couple of blocks, parking where Hidden Hollow turns
right into Easy Street. Walk down Easy Street to Abbey (sp?) Lane.
There is an old green trailer and cottage. The accentor is coming to the
birdfeeder at the cottage, often with chickadees, juncos, and American
Goldfinches. It also frequents the gray house further down the road.

Good birding!
