Hi Tweeters: Been busy building a new garage so haven't posted
anything in a long while, but I have been reading and watching your
comments with great interest. Very exciting, as at 7:45 am yesterday,
Feb 24, I had a male Rufous to my feeder out side my kitchen window.
Beautiful weather the past 4 days and about 13 Rhodys in bloom around my
yard possibly had something to do with attracting him, although I have
never seen a hummingbird go for the rhododendron nectar. Lots of stuff
showing buds and color.
Bird updates: The pair of Brandt Cormorants have moved out from the
pillings on the old dock; I haven't seen any Pigeon Guillemots out front
lately; About 5 days ago, the Townsend Warbler that has been making
daily visits to my suit- oatmeal- cooked rice feeder has pulled up
stakes; The large flock of Western Grebes is still here; I see one
Oldsquaw keeping company with about 8 Surf Scoters that , by the way,
are going thru their " defensive pairing quarrels"; Daily fly-bys of
about 4 Bald Eagle appearances; About 6 Varried Thrush still eatting
large quanities of feed off the railing on my back deck; and all the
other normal winter birds that have been here daily still coming. I
wish the Pine Siskin had better table manners and wouldn't dump all the
uneatten black sun flower seeds on the ground.
Observation: I took the Kingston-Edmonds ferry across last Wednesday at
9:30 am and saw very few sea ducks and birds. Rather disappointed.
Kinda like a void out there going across.
That's it..........Whooop---de--do. Good Birding
Respectfully submitted, Captain Cormorant, Bainbridge Island, Wa.
