Subject: Storm arrivals at Des Moines Marina, WA

Our marina and several hundred boats have survived.....so far.....this
incredible winter mother-of-all-storms.
Unusual for the area, on Dec 30 during a brief respite between blowing
deluges, a single Common Murre and also a Red-throated Loon were within
easy binos ID from the end of the fishing pier. In addition, a small
flock of Dunlin were seen flying up from the beach. For those who may be
interested, Des Moines Beach Park is now mostly a lake; the stream running
through it is hugely overflowing its channel. The birds are already using
the new lake, but the senior center buildings may not survive this flood.
The Kent/Auburn CBC (includes my count areas of Saltwater Park and the
Marina) has been postponed from Dec 29...one of the more impressive ice!!!
days...to next Sunday, Jan 5.
Stay warm and dry folks (Des Moines downtown/Marina/residential areas were
without electricity for 27 hrs late last week; others I know had even
longer ordeal).
More as seen and Joyous New Year to all,
Maureen Ellis me2 at u.washington.edu U of WA and Des Moines, WA
