If your library has it I'd strongly recommend Dennis Paulson's Shorebirds
of the Pacific Northwest. (Did I get it right Dennis?) There is a lot of
good information in the early chapters on general bird topics, anatomy,
plumage, habits, etc. that apply to all birds. The Ballard Branch of the
SPL has it I know...
