Saturday's PAS field trip is a drive along the Columbia. We will meet at
8 am at the Oregon Department of Transportation parking lot on NE 60th
just north of Glisan. From there we will carpool to the river by way of
the Monk Parakeet colony. We will stop at several accessible (and free)
points along the river and scope for eagles, diving birds, and what ever
else swims or flies along. The field trip will continue all the way to
Kelley Point Park (which we may or may not be able to get in). This will
be the only point where some hiking on cement paths will be required (due
to flooding, we will probably not stop at Smith-Bybee unless Kelley Point
is closed).
All are welcome no matter what your experience level (beginners
are especially welcome). I anticipate the trip will last until 11:30 or 12
Noon. McBarron the birding dog will come along to offer her tips and
hints on identification (her latest life bird was Mew Gull).
Next month's trip will explore the opposite side of the river,
Vancouver Lake and up to Ridgefield. Nesting eagles and herons will be
highlights.
