Tweets,
On the Olympic Peninsula we get large numbers of Thayer's Gulls but they
seem to favor certain localities and to segregate themselves out at least in
loafing flocks.
The best place to see a large number closely and in good light is the
Elwha River Dike (end of Place Road north of WA 112, mentioned in Wahl and
Paulson). Due to how close they are it is easy to compare with other gulls,
tell males from females and see just how many have light eyes.
Other areas where they regularly occur are on the log rafts off Ediz Hook
(the one closest to Daishowa most frequently) but they are not as close. Two
other good places to see them mixed with other species are at the creek
running in to Neah Bay near the Senior Center and the fish docks at La Push.
