The first "Red-winged Blackbird" of Spring is like the first "Robin of
Spring." They don't all migrate in this part of the country but they do
flock and go where the food and shelter are. Some of the more libidinous
males have decided that Spring is here, now that the days are getting
longer, and have started to sing on territory. In the foothills of the
Rockies and farther east the blackbirds head south and make a nuisance of
themselves, especially in rice-growing areas.
