I thought I'd take a moment to say something I'm sure you all know, but I
think it's worth repeating. There was an immature harbor seal lying on
the beach at Golden Gardens this morning, right next to the creek where
the kids play. A few people were looking at it thinking it was sick,
injured or dying. The most likely prospect was that it's mother left it
there and will return for it soon. Please don't try to rescue a marine
mammal unless you're sure it needs rescuing. The phone number for marine
animals in the Seattle area is 285-7325.

There weren't a lot of birds at the beach, lots of gulls, including about
ten Ring-Billed, hundreds of Crows and Starlings, 30 or so Wigeons on the
lawn, three male Buffleheads, one lone White Winged Scoter, about 16
Red-breasted Mergansers, 5 Horned Grebes, one Great Blue Heron and one
Bald Eagle that was roosting on the top of a tree on Sunset Hill, then
flew almost overhead and landed on the far side of the breakwater. I've
been seeing two mature Bald Eagles in the trees on the bluff for the last
month or so, probably north of 85th I'd guess, in case anyone is
interested.
