To whom it may concern:

IBM is running some ads which are innocent in intent, but which are
quite harmful in practice.

In the commercial, a girl brings home an owl which she has found and
her father permits her to keep it. He then suggests that they look up
information about it in a computer encyclopedia. The owl ends up in a
cage of some kind.

IBM's ad agency does not realize that it is illegal to take most living
or even dead wildlife (owls, in particular). Doing so contributes to
species endangerment. The owl would surely die.

The ad undoes lots of hard work by conservationists to educate the
public on the proper relationship with wildlife. Many people are now
sending protests to IBM. May I encourage you to provide some coverage
of this story? It would help undo some of the damage caused by the
advertisements.
