It was a gorgeous day at Spencer Island on Tues. Twelve of us birded there
from about 1000 to 1400. We saw 38 species of which 18 were waterfowl, lots
of Northern Pintail, Green-winged Teal and Northern Shoveler. Highlights
were a Merlin perched in a fir tree for long enough to get good looks at it,
60-70 Long-billed Dowitchers huddled on a mudflat trying to warm up in the
sunshine, also a number of Bald Eagles and Red-tailed Hawks in different
plumages.

We also saw the Oldsquaw at the pond just south of Dagmar's Landing and just
east of the road. The pond was mostly iced over and it was the only bird on
the water. It was there both going into and returning from Spencer Is.

Couldn't get online last night to send this out, so had to wait until Wed.
